Workshop on Arbitration of Intellectual Property Disputes and on WIPO Domain Name Dispute Resolution

The World Intellectual Property Organization ("WIPO") Centre, in co-operation with SIAC, and with the support of the Ministry of Law of Singapore, Intellectual Property Office of Singapore and Singapore Institute of Arbitrators will be organizing a two-day workshop on Arbitration of Intellectual Property Disputes and WIPO Domain Name Dispute Resolution.

An important workshop for lawyers, patent and trademark attorneys and others wishing to understand more about the international arbitration process and the WIPO domain name dispute resolution, the topics covered will include principles of international commercial arbitration law and practice, with particular reference to the practical application of the WIPO Arbitration and Expedited Arbitration Rules in intellectual property and technology disputes; as well as Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy proceedings and decision trends on substantive and procedural issues.

Seminar on Legal Protection in International Trade, Hangzhou, China

China's Yangtze River Delta is the most economically active area in China. Intellectual Property protection and anti-dumping are hot topics in international trade in the Yangze River Delta. SIAC and the Hangzhou Arbitration Commission are organising a seminar which will discuss issues pertinent to these topics.

In conjunction with this seminar, SIAC will be leading a delegation from Singapore. We will be organising a series of activities in Hangzhou and Ningbo from 29 October 2005 to 1 November 2005 which will enable delegates to have an opportunity to network with key Chinese organization through visits and meetings. This programme aims to update participants' understanding of the industrial developments in China, as well as provide a platform to explore potential business opportunities.

UNCITRAL Conference on Convention for Contracts for the International Sale of Goods ("CISG") and Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration ("MAL")

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Conference on Convention for Contracts for the International Sale of Goods and 20th anniversary of the Model Law, UNCITRAL is organizing a series of worldwide conferences this year. The conferences will focus on regional issues arising out of these Conventions.

UNCITRAL's Asian conference will take place in Singapore and SIAC is proud to host this historic event.

The Protection of International Investment
Beijing, China

With the surge of international investments in China, it is increasingly crucial for foreign investors and Chinese enterprises to be aware of the risks involved in international transactions. To increase the awareness of arbitration as an alternative dispute resolution, SIAC is pleased to co-host this event with the Beijing Arbitration Commission and the Chinese Society of International Law.

Highlights of the seminar include updates on Chinese government policies to protect international investments, the advantages and the pitfalls to avoid when listing in Singapore, the role of arbitration in the dispute resolution of international investments and the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards by the People's Courts.

In conjunction with this seminar, SIAC is leading a delegation from Singapore. We will be organising a series of activities starting from 14 July 2005 which will enable the Singapore delegation to have an opportunity to network with key Chinese organizations through visits and meetings. ICC - SIAC Symposium: "Institutional Arbitration in Asia"

With the rise in popularity of institutional arbitration in Asia, the ICC's International Court of Arbitration and SIAC are proud to present a symposium on current issues in institutional arbitration. SIAC Registry of Arbitral Awards and Authentication Service

SIAC is pleased to announce the establishment of a Registry for all arbitral awards and an authentication service for the arbitration community. All users of Singapore arbitration can now lodge their awards with the SIAC and apply to the Registrar to have it authenticated or certified when they seek to enforce it extra-territorially. A party seeking to enforce an arbitral award under the New York Convention is required by a foreign court to produce an authenticated original award or a duly certified copy.

The Registry will be a closed registry and confidentiality will be strictly upheld.
