CEO of Singapore International Arbitration Centre, Minn Naing Oo has been appointed by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to Dispute Settlement panels to decide two cases which the US and EU have brought against the Philippines. He will sit on the panels with two other international trade experts.
Minn is the fourth and youngest Singaporean to be appointed to a WTO dispute settlement panel.
According to the WTO’s dispute settlement rules, whenever member countries have a dispute, a panel consisting usually of three experts from different member countries may be established to consider the case, examine the evidence, and decide the outcome. Panelists for each case are chosen from a list of well-qualified candidates. They serve in their individual capacities and do not receive instructions from any government.
