TERMS OF REFERENCE
SIAC Users Council

1. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
* To provide feedback and market information on SIAC's Arbitration Rules and its services; and to enable SIAC to ensure that its case administration and other services continue to meet the highest standards of excellence and efficiency and are in keeping with current best practices.
* To establish and foster links between SIAC and both current and prospective users of its Rules and services.
* To instil in members of the SIAC Users Council, and others, confidence in SIAC's arbitration services, such that, whenever appropriate, they adopt or recommend the adoption of SIAC dispute resolution clauses.
2. APPOINTMENT AND MEMBERSHIP
* Appointment to the Users Council is by invitation from SIAC only.
* Eligibility for membership of the SIAC Users Council is open to any person of good standing with a bona fide interest in international commercial or investment arbitration, including lawyers, arbitrators, mediators, experts, academics and business persons.
* Membership of the SIAC Users Council may be cancelled if, in its discretion, SIAC considers that a current member no longer meets the criteria for membership, for reasons that have become known to SIAC since membership was granted.
* SIAC may establish such committees or working groups (whose members shall be appointed from within the Users Council) as may be required to assist with the fulfillment of the aims and objectives of the Users Council.
3. TERM OF APPOINTMENT
* Members of the SIAC Users Council are appointed for a two-year term, which may be renewed for consecutive additional terms at the discretion of SIAC.
4. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
There are no charges or required meetings for membership on the SIAC Users Council. Members are encouraged, however, to do the following:
* Provide comments and feedback on any draft Arbitration Rules, proposals or initiatives put forward by SIAC, when provided with periodic updates on the same.
* Participate, where possible, in regional and other events organised by SIAC, and any surveys or consultative processes conducted by SIAC on its arbitrators or services.
5. AMENDMENTS
SIAC may, from time to time and at its discretion, amend these Terms of Reference.
